TDS COMPLIANCE
TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) Compliance refers to the legal obligation of individuals, businesses, and organizations to deduct a certain percentage of tax at the time of making payments to vendors, employees, contractors, or service providers and remit it to the government. This system is used by governments (such as Indias) to collect taxes at the source of income itself, rather than at the end of the financial year when the individual or entity files their returns.
TDS must be deducted on certain payments, including salaries, interest, rent, professional fees, contractor payments, etc.
The rate of deduction depends on the type of payment and the applicable laws.
TDS is deducted at the time of payment or credit, whichever is earlier.
Once TDS is deducted, it must be deposited with the tax authorities within a specified period.
In India, for example, the TDS collected in a month is required to be deposited by the 7th of the following month.
ntities that are responsible for TDS deduction must file periodic TDS returns (typically quarterly).
These returns contain details of the amount of TDS deducted, the nature of payments, and the recipients of the payments.
